Today, I explored the supermarkets (Pingo Doce) and found buckwheat bread, as well as sheep's cheese from Arrabida.
I was inspired by my friend Vanya, who always spreads cheese on bread.
I really like this style of Portuguese cheeses, where you cut the top off the cheese and spread it, but often it's either too salty or has an ammonia/acetone undertone.
Firstly, it's great that this cheese is local (half an hour south of Lisbon by bike), and secondly, I love sheep's cheese. The saltiness is good, but there's a bit of an acetone note. I'll keep looking!
The buckwheat bread is super! It has the vibe of a rough rural loaf, but the taste is well-balanced. They even added nuts to it. There's no buckwheat itself in this supermarket, but there's buckwheat bread.
If we want buckwheat products, we should look for the word serraceno 💁🏼♀️
